Injury Risk Reduction - We Have the Program...What About the Pitch?

April 15, 2018

With the synthetic pitch becoming more common place in Australian sport, there are a number of questions that still need to be answered.

Do we actually know if these pitches are safe for our players?

Is there an increased risk of injury for players?

Should players wear different shoes/boots on these pitches and which ones?

How do we find out?

A good place to start, as always, is the existing literature. At present, there is not much out there to help us make decisions on the above questions. This article by Athol Thomson (Qatar) and David Rennie (UK) gives a great introduction into this issue and can be found as a free PDF here on our website.
